Adapting Your Approach to the Situation
recognises that not everyone responds to the same approach; uses different approaches to appeal to the different interest levels of other people (e.g. concrete examples, reason, data, figures, etc); show sensitivity to the dynamics of different situations

Anticipating Your Impact
anticipates the likely ramification of issues and comments, and prepares appropriately for these; correctly anticipates how others will react to different situations and plans to tailor the approach effectively; presents ideas in a manner that clearly shows a link to the needs of the audience
Influencing Through Building Rapport
influences others by building rapport; shows an appreciation of underlying attitudes, feelings and behaviour of other people and uses this understanding for mutual benefit; influences and gains credibility through the manner in which ideas are presented
Influencing in the Face of Opposition
develops and implements effective strategies to alter strongly held opinions for the benefit of the organisation; takes well thought-out, and perhaps unusual, actions in order to make a specific impact; minimises the opportunity for difficult situations or confrontation to arise; manages negative comments in a positive fashion
Influencing Through Others
influences indirectly by enlisting experts or other third parties to assist in achieving the desired outcome; understands influencing processes and strategies, and uses these effectively in complex situations; uses understanding of political relationships to gain support for ideas and achieve organisational goals; uses appropriate techniques to move others to action
