The Skill Builder helps you define a management profile for yourself. By choosing definitions of management competence at a level suitable for your job you can make decisions about how competent you are and possible ways in which you may improve your competence
You can make a general assessment by looking at all competence areas, and then focus in on one or two areas to determine what changes you would like to make.
Look at the ten competencies in the box on the left. How competently do you do your job in each of those areas?
Click on one of the boxes. Each of the competencies is defined in terms of five levels.
Work out the level most relevant to your job. Click to show that it is ‘a responsibility of your role’.
This enables you to define how well you currently do the tasks related to that competency, and whether you want to improve. When you fill those in the results will be recorded in your ‘Profile’.
Below that are specific skill questions that define the competency. If any of these questions relate to a skill you would like to improve, click on them and describe a task you would like to do. You can use the suggested task, adapt it to suit yourself, or develop your own task.
The task will be placed in your Personal Development Plan. You can set timelines for its completion, and reminders can be sent to you to ensure you complete it.
If you like you can download an Action Plan to help you define further the task you intend to complete. In the Action Plan you define your task in terms of outcomes, break it down into smaller sub-tasks, and set out actions and timeframes. There is also space for you to assess the effectiveness of your learning.
Action Plans provide a disciplined way to consider changes within your work. The Action Plan you download can be adapted for use with any changes or developments within your work.
You can add tasks to your Personal Development Plan from any area of Management Focus.
Your Management Capability Profile, your Personal Development Plan and your Action Plans are all stored securely under your username, and you can access them at any time to modify or expand upon them.
